2010 Précis

2009 presented us with very cool summer weather so that by the end of August, grapes were about three weeks behind normal. Fortunately our typical Central Coast Indian Summer arrived for a warm, beautiful September bringing perfect ripeness to our vineyards.
Our Monterey Chardonnay is assembled from specially selected vineyards primarily in the Arroyo Seco and Santa Lucia Highlands appellations. Each viticultural region contributes certain aromas and flavors which compliment each other to create a Chardonnay of extraordinary character and finesse.
At harvest, all our grapes are hand-picked after careful evaluation for ripeness. Our Chardonnay is very gently pressed in order to obtain the highest quality juice. 90% is then transferred to small French barrels for primary and malo-lactic fermentations. Each barrel is hand stirred every week until shortly before the blending and bottling. We retain 10% of the juice for cold fermentation in stainless-steel tanks in order to add a note of bright fruit flavors to the final blend.
Our 2009 is a beautiful expression of Monterey Chardonnay exhibiting aromas of ripe tropical fruits with notes of honeysuckle, caramel apple and a hint of vanilla. The palate is full-bodied and creamy displaying ripe fruit flavors balanced by a crisp acidity and a beautifully focused finish.
