We at Bernardus invite you to experience the pure, precise flavors of Chardonnay without the adornment of oak.
In 2011 we enjoyed beautiful, sunny weather throughout the summer with warm dry conditions through September and October. This, along with low yields in the vineyards, provided us a supply of especially high quality grapes from which to choose our 2011 Précis.
Our Winemaker makes his selections for this unique wine by tasting the juice as it runs from the press. These selected lots are then fermented in the coolest part of the winery in order to enhance and protect the natural fruity characters of the wines. The final blend is made after extensive tastings in order to produce the perfect expression of unoaked Monterey Chardonnay for the vintage.
Our 2011 Précis offers bright aromas of ripe peach, tropical fruits and notes of citrus. The palate is lush and intense with complex flavors of peach, papaya and lemon, while the crisp acidity gives Précis a refreshing note to the long finish.
Appellation: Monterey County
Fermented in 75 gallon stainless steel barrels and older, neutral French oak barrels using a variety of specially selected yeasts. Unlike many un-oaked Chardonnays, a portion of our blend has undergone a malo-lactic fermentation. We feel this addition, along with weekly lees-stirring, adds depth and supports the ageability of the wine.
