2010 Monterey County Sauvignon Blanc

2010 was a typical growing year on the Central Coast. Moderate summer temperatures, beautifully warm weather in the fall, along with low yields brought our grapes to perfect ripeness while protecting their bright fruit flavors and natural acidities.

For our Monterey Sauvignon Blanc the grapes are sourced from two vineyards in the Arroyo Seco appellation: the celebrated Griva vineyard and its neighboring Ventana vineyard. Both are planted with the highly prized Musqué clone which produces the finest, most varietally pure aromas and flavors.

All our grapes are hand-picked during many successive pickings at various ripeness levels in order to have a broad pallet of flavors and acidity levels from which to select our final blend. As usual, the vast majority of the juice is cold fermented in stainless steel then aged for several months in large, neutral French oak tanks to encourage integration of flavors.

Tasting notes:
The vibrant aromas exhibit notes of peach, melon and grapefruit along with hints of fresh grass and flint. On the palate, the flavors are rich, crisp and intense, showing complex essences of lime, grapefruit and gooseberry, accented by the ever-present mineral notes and refreshing acidity typical of the Arroyo Seco appellation.

Fermentation:
87% stainless steel; 13% neutral oak barrels. We use 3 specially selected yeasts, each one adding its particular nuance and style to the overall blend.

55% Ventana Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc
40% Griva Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc
 5% Griva Vineyard Semillon
