The energy and focus that is typical of the cooler sites within the Santa Lucia Highlands comes through in the 2010 Rosella’s Pinot Noir. Dark red cherries, flowers, mint an and spices are woven together nicely as the wine works its way to a long, focused finish. The Rosella’s is one of the more feminine wines here. Bernardus 2010 Rosella’s Pinot Noir (Santa Lucia Highlands) $60
So ripe and decadent, it is perhaps the wine equivalent of a candy bar, with raspberry, cherry, red currant, vanilla and cinnamon flavors. Pinot doesn’t get any tastier than this, but it does get more complex. Still, this is fancy enough to drink over the next six years with steak, duck, tuna or lamb. – S. H.
