2005 Vineyard Designate Chardonnay, Griva Vineyard

Planted specifically for Bernardus, the Griva vineyard is located in the Arroyo Seco appellation, renowned for it’s exceptionally sandy, rocky soils and sunny yet cool, windy climate. This combination of factors produces full-bodied wines of intense fruititness and varietal character.

The 2005 vintage was cooler than normal, but the dry, sunny weather in the critical months of September and October allowed the fruit extended hang-time. This enhanced the flavor intensity, crisp acidity, and pronounced minerality.

The aromas are classic Arroyo Seco Chardonnay. Apple and citrus fruits accented by mineral notes, as well as hints of crême brulée in the nose. The palate is full and rich, but balanced by it’s crisp texture. The lush finish exudes flavors of baked apple and pear.
