All our Sauvignon Blanc grapes come from a block specially planted for Bernardus in the Griva Vineyard with the celebrated “Musqué” clone.
All our Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon grapes are hand-picked during many successive pickings at various ripeness levels in order to have a broad palette of flavors and acidity levels from which to create our final blend.
The 2023 vintage on the Central Coast produced higher than usual yields in the vineyards. A relatively cool summer and later picking dates made for slower ripening grapes that preserve very fruit forward characteristics, highlighting the exceptional Sauvignon Blanc vineyard produces.
Fermentation: We ferment our Signature Griva Sauvignon Blanc at cool temperature in stainless steel tanks. It is then aged for several months in large, neutral 34-year-old French oak tanks to encourage integration of flavors. We use 3 specially selected yeasts - each one adding a unique flavor profile which enhances the complexity of the final blend. The Semillon is fermented in older, neutral French oak barrels.
Tasting notes: Our 2024 Signature Griva bottling has tropical fruit aromas accented by grapefruit and white peach. The palate exhibits hints of minerality with rich, lush tropical fruit flavors. With notes of guava, citrus peel, and stone fruit, this intense Sauvignon Blanc finishes with refreshing acidity.
